Quick Takes Friday #6

1.  My weight has plateaued.  I've lost 38lbs since having Ian....of the 53 that I gained!!!  And I still have 15 more to go....sadly, it doesn't seem to be going!  The first 35 pounds came off within the first 2 weeks...I'm not exaggerating.  I'm not sure how it happened but I seriously lost 35lbs in 2 weeks...and 3 pounds in the next 4 weeks.  I guess it's time to start exercising, huh? ;)

2.  Ian woke up at 5:30am this morning.  So it's 6:28am as I type this....he's happy...he just doesn't want to sleep...he just wants to lie there...awake...and wiggling.

3.  Yesterday I took both kids to the pool...all by myself!  I felt very accomplished!  Of course Ian did not get in..we camped out in the shade and Isabel played in the shallow end, but I did it and survived.

4.  We picked strawberries this week and so far have made homemade strawberry shortcake (yum!) and strawberry muffins.  I think this morning we will do strawberry bread....frankly I'm running out of strawberry ideas.

5.  Yesterday a solicitor came to our door and rang the doorbell.  Not a big deal, right?  Except that I have a "No Soliciting Here!  Thank You!" sign on the door.  He had the audacity to tell me that he saw my sign (!) but that this was really important.  Do you think I bought any of what he was selling??? ;)  I was fuming when he left!

6.  Ian's baptism is June 11th!  I'm looking forward to it!

7.  Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to Dreft, the baby detergent?

You can make your own detergent. I can send it to you. :) I use it on H's clothes, I use it for all of us actually.

Eat fish for dinner. My weight platued again as well.... ;)

Make jam it's super easy, I made 12 jars 6 in each interval and it only took about 1.5 hours....!!!!!! It's so easy too!

Like Sew said, you can make your own. If you find that making your own isn't for you, you could try All Free & Clear. We had really good results with that detergent for my son's sensitive skin and his cloth diapers.

Here's a fun strawberry recipe for cookies. We just made them for a bake sale at our parish. http://www.marthastewart.com/282784/strawberry-shortcake-cookies?xsc=eml_cod_2011_05_11

Oh and you might think I'm crazy, but I have never used special detergent for baby clothes. My mom told me not to worry about it and to just switch if I noticed a skin irritation. So I took her advice, and we have had no issues. :)

I second (or third) the recommendation on making strawberry jam. Super easy!! Let me know if you need/want a strawberry jam recipe. I'll find the one my Grammy gave me.

Also, I second Megan's suggestion on the detergent. I have always had sensitive skin and any detergent that is "Free and Clear" will do the trick. I buy whatever "free and clear" happens to be on sale.

I understand about "plateauing". I gained 45 this pregnancy, lost 25 the first week, gained back 5, then lost the extra 5 again...now stuck and can't get rid of the other 20. Grrr.

I use All Free and Clear detergent. My husband has sensitive skin already, so I have to use that. It hasn't irritated Ella's skin at all either. It's usually $5.99 for the 50oz. bottle. This week Publix has it buy one get one free and you can print 2 $1.00 off coupons per computer on www.all-laundry.com. I printed 6 coupons (between 3 computers) so I got 6 bottles of All for $12 (instead of $36)!!!
