Freaking out a little regarding progesterone!

So NaPro nurse calls and tells me my progesterone at 11wks4days had gone down to 39.0 and while they expect a slight decrease around this time, Dr. C wants me to continue with the PIO shots and draw my levels again in 2 weeks.

Well....big problem... 11wks4days was also my last PIO shot.  She hadn't given me another prescription and I assumed (yes, I know what they say about assuming)....that since she hadn't called with my progesterone level and hadn't called in a new prescription that everything was okay.  Since she said that we would likely stop PIO at 12 weeks depending on my levels.

So I'm a little bit freaking out.  I asked the nurse...."So is it a problem that I haven't had a PIO shot in about a week and a half??"  And she asked Dr. C and called me back and they are refilling my prescription and sending me a lab order to get my blood drawn sooner than later. She never answered if it was a problem.

So now I'm wondering how much damage I've done by not being on PIO for this long with already decreased levels???

Yeah, I'm having a little bit of a melt down about it.  :(  I just feel so stupid.  I should have called a week ago..I just kept forgetting or putting it off and then we were out of town...and now here we are a week and a half later.

Crap.

From what I understand, 39 is a great number at this stage. It sounds like the doc just wants you to keep taking the shots as a precaution, but I don't understand why it would be necessary as the placenta should have taken over by now. I was taking the vaginal suppositories of progesterone and my doc said I could stop right at 12 weeks...and I did. I would call your doc again if you are confused and just get a clear answer for your peace of mind.

39 is a decent number. The PIO is probably just a precaution like PP said. I was on oral & suppositories up until 38 weeks and my levels we always around the 40 mark except for the very end when the highest was about 55 I think. Baby will be fine. Just repeat, "Jesus I trust in You."

I understand your concern! Especially the emphasis that napro puts on progesterone....But I quit all progesterone and suppositories, I can't remember when....My last blood draw was 40something and I was about 18-20ish weeks?

I haven't thought about it since....But I know you are still within the first trimester. Do you have any orals laying around? If you do you might be able to take them for precaution.... ;)

Mainstream meds would have never tested your levels past 12 weeks anyway, and though we know that we can do better than that, the field hasn't been enough convinced to make it mainstream. That tells me that likely it will be no problem at all. I used to ride the roller coaster of prog levels, but I have learned that after 12 weeks, I just do the amt of shots they tell me, but I don't freak out when levels get low suddenly etc. I have had two healthy pregnancies with very wonky prog-one all over the place and the other on about the most slow rise you can imagine. So, I think getting on it now is good, but I think being off it a bit isn't a huge deal. Hang in there!

(((Hugs))) I can only imagine the anxiety you are feeling. It is important to not let that anxiety take over! Focus on the instructions the doctor gave you, which you will follow perfectly, and try not to allow yourself to think of the things they didn't say. Rather, focus on what the doc did say. I am praying for you!

Thanks girls...that makes me feel a little better.

And Sew, you're a genius! Of course I have oral progesterone I could take! I guess I was too panicked to think of it before!

Oh Angela, I'm praying for you and your little one. I'm sure everything will be fine! I would think that if something was severely wrong, your doctor would have had you come into the office immediately, right?

Angela, I had one of those freak outs with my last baby. I got a call at around 14 weeks that my prog. had dropped. I was so freaked out, I spent the rest of that day crying and in bed. But the NaPro dr. upped my progesterone and all was fine. By week 26 I was on oral, suppositories, and shots, oh my! Some of us ladies need prog. all the way through. I'm praying for you. Remember how the priest prays in Mass: "protect us from all anxiety."

I'll be praying for you, too. I've had only one miscarriage, but I remember the pain, the grief, and the fear with subsequent pregnancies. I'm so glad you had such a wonderful experience at your ME weekend. God is so good!
