Ian's Birth Story

On Tuesday April 5, at 3am I woke up with strong menstrual-like cramps.  They were strong enough to keep me awake, so I decided to pack my hospital bag (no, my hospital bag still had not been packed!), and then I thought I should paint my toenails.   So as I was painting them (at 3am in the bathroom), Isabel walks in from having had a bad dream and asks if I could sleep in her room.  I thought, "Why not?  I might as well lie in there for the next few hours since I can't sleep anyway!"  I ended up falling asleep and was awoken at 6am by my water breaking!  It wasn't a huge gush, but enough to make me realize this was it!  It continued to trickle for a few minutes and so I decided to take a shower and get ready because today was Baby Day!  By 6:30am I was having regular contractions 4-5 minutes apart.

My mom had come into town on Sunday (anticipating the big day!) and so she took the last picture of the three of us, before we headed off to my regular OBGYN appointment at 8:30am.

We got there and the doctor checked me (I was 3cm!) and agreed that I had ruptured my bag of water up near the top, which is why it wasn't a huge gush, and that they would still rupture my bag a little lower, once we got to the hospital.  She called ahead to let labor and delivery know to expect me, while Rob and I quickly drove next door to McDonald's to eat something before I would be stuck not eating anything!!

When we got to the hospital it was about 9:30am and we were quickly checked into a room, and admitted.  They hooked me up to an IV and said I could walk the halls.  Here is a pic of me getting ready to walk the halls....I was really happy at the point (in between contractions) :)

We started walking the halls and that lasted all of 10 minutes before my contractions were so awful I needed to return to my room!! LOL!  (We did NOT take a picture of that!)

At noon I got my epidural and then I was in heaven...it was by far the easiest and best epidural I've had.  I think I was 4cm at that point.  Then by about 2pm I was 8cm and by 4pm I was 10!!!!!

Can you tell I was excited??? :)

I pushed for about 10 minutes I guess....it was 2 contractions worth of pushing, so maybe not really 10 minutes.  And little Ian was born at 4:15pm!

Proud Daddy!

That was pretty much it!  We were discharged from the hospital about 26 hours after he was born!  More pics to follow! :)

Sorry it took so long to post all this!  I've been in baby bliss for the last week!

I am crying. I remember when I first found your blog...it was about a week before I found out you were my prayer buddy...and pregnant! All this time; the anxiety, the fear, the prayers! And now, look at him. What a miracle! I am soo happy for you!

Angela and Rob, I am so happy for you. I wish Meredith and Brian still lived nearby so that I could pop in and see your precious little Ian. God has richly rewarded your faithfulness. I love the name you have chosen: perfect and yet so beautiful. Tell Isabel that Hailee and Hannah's grandmom sends her love. A big sister -- how nice. Lots of love to the four of you.

Wonderful! I am in love with good epdidurals and fast labors, I also had the joy of pushing a contraction and a half-oh and cute babies with lots of hair but I don't have personal experience with the lots of hair part! He is adorable! And you, are beautiful! And amazingly talented-you could reach your toes to paint them?!!!
